Snohomish County Public Works will begin work on its May Creek Bridge 559 replacement project on Monday, April 10, closing the local access road a week later.
May Creek Bridge will be closed for the project April 17 through November.
Constructed in 1975, the 100-foot-long bridge has been rated structurally deficient due to erosion. The stream crossing is located roughly 3.5 miles upstream of its confluence to the Wallace River, according to the project design report. The bridge “currently acts as a constriction to the free flowing characteristics of May Creek.”
The replacement will be longer than the old bridge, with a “pre-stressed precast concrete girder superstructure,” according to a project news release. It will include two 11-foot-wide travel lanes and 3-foot shoulders.
Roughly 741 daily trips are made across the existing structure nine miles east of Gold Bar, according to the design report. County traffic planners estimate traffic will increase to 1,000 trips by 2034. As of 2013, the structure’s sufficiency rating was downgraded to 8.16 out of 100.
Public Works has provided a map of a detour route.
Construction will take place 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
