Citing his commitment to the "Bearcat WayGÇ¥ of strong character and "doing things the right way," Brett Jay has accepted the job as the new varsity football coach for Monroe High School.
Jay, 30, joins a growing Bearcat program that has seen post-season play the past three years in a row. He leaves a very successful stint as the head football coach for River View High School in Kennewick, Washington.
"The Monroe community itself is incredible. I love that it is a one-high school town with a great youth football program and such strong community support. It excites me that MHS and district leaders are hungry for a strong football program. I can't wait to get started,GÇ¥ Jay said.
Leading the Class1A Panthers since 2008, Jay earned a 43-21 record with three playoff appearances including the 2012 semifinals. A 2002 River View grad, he returned to coach at River View after success in semi-professional football leagues, earning MVP status twice. Taking the River View helm at the age of 24, he grew the program and was selected as Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2012. His 11 wins in 2012 set a new school record for the most wins in a season.
He will be moving to the area with his wife and two children, ages 6 and 2. Jay and his wife are both certificated teachers. As an English and Physical Education teacher Jay was the students' choice for Commencement speaker twice. He is currently working on his Masters of Education through Concordia University Irvine and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Heritage University in Toppenish, Washington.
An open house to meet Coach Jay is set for Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the Monroe High School campus at 17001 Tester Road.
