MHS singing group recognized by 5thAvenue Theater


The Monroe High School spring production of "Happy DaysGÇ¥ earned an honorable mention from the 5th Avenue Theater for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Group.
The singing group "Dialtones" featured: Cameron Lee as Ritchie, Garrick Lindsted as Potsie, Eli Kirshbaum as Ralph and Marcus Thornton as Chachi
"The group had the right performance chemistry,GÇ¥ says Melissa Reed, drama teacher and director of "Happy Days.GÇ¥ "They had to have the right singing ranges, the right configuration; if didn't mesh well, it wouldn't work. There was a real "aha' moment with this group at auditions.GÇ¥
"Ms. Reed and Mr. Hyde were perfect to work with,GÇ¥ says Lindsted, a senior. "They worked their hearts out. They stayed after school every day working with us. Ms. White, the band teacher, did just as well. GÇ¥
"We had a lot of fun together; I think that's important to put on a good performance,GÇ¥ says Kirshbaum, a freshman. "I didn't think of it as competing GÇô just as putting on a fun show.GÇ¥
"It's definitely exciting because it means they came and saw us, took note of our performance, and liked it,GÇ¥ says freshman Lee. "It's a big deal and makes me excited for the future of the drama program here.GÇ¥
"We worked pretty hard to make that happen,GÇ¥ says junior Thornton. "It wasn't our goal to get the award, but it was always in the back of our minds that it would be pretty awesome.GÇ¥
The cast received formal recognition at an awards ceremony at 5th Avenue Theater.
