The Monroe High School Wind Ensemble has been selected as one of the groups to perform in a music clinic as part of the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) conference.
Teacher and Wind Ensemble director Lisa White submitted a recording last spring to apply for this honor, which is highly competitive. "The last time we had someone from our district invited was 2000, when the Wind Ensemble from Monroe Junior High went,GÇ¥ says White, who was also the director of that group.
The Wind Ensemble will be involved in a clinic session which will focus on rehearsal techniques. They will perform one song, and then the clinician will use them to demonstrate ways to improve and utilize rehearsal time.
"This will be a great opportunity for our students,GÇ¥ says White. "It is always good for students to work with other directors and learn different techniques.GÇ¥ The students will need to demonstrate a high level of musicianship and be able to demonstrate what the clinician asks them to do.
The Monroe Wind Ensemble is made up of 53 students in grades 10-12, who take it as an elective class.
The WMEA conference is an opportunity for music educators to learn more about music education as well as network with music educators and clinicians from all over the country.
