Maggie Torza of Miss Maggie's Desserts will celebrate her grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 10. Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick will perform a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., and all are welcome to attend.
Torza will feature bite-sized pastries and cupcakes at the event, along with her traditional cannoli, which is currently her best-selling item.
Sultan resident Torza started her business in June of 2011 at the GROW Washington store in Snohomish, eventually offering her handmade sweet treats in Sultan, as well. A chocolatier, Torza began with truffles and caramels, and has since added custom cakes. Moving to the new GROW Washington location in the former Dutch Cup restaurant building with its commercial kitchen, has enabled her to further expand her menu to include both French and Italian pastries.
In January of 2012 Miss Maggie's Desserts was recognized by the city of Sultan as a successful start-up business.
GROW Washington moved to its new location at the end of February and has since been working with Snohomish County to re-open the kitchen. As of the second week of July, all permits were in place and the kitchen was open for business. Torza is the first entrepreneur to utilize the kitchen facilities.
GROW Washington is located at 927 U.S. 2 in Sultan, right next to Windmill Espresso.
