Monroe High School sophomore and DECA member Maddy Vigus helped to coordinate the mock DUI assembly on Thursday, May 18.

Former Miss Washington USA and MHS graduate Stormy Keffeler, whose title was revoked because of a drunk driving arrest, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving speaker Bon Bruce, who lost two sons in a collision with a drunk driver, both spoke about their personal experiences to the students.

The Monroe School District, Fire District 7 and other agencies carried out a demonstration of what it would look like if two cars filled with students collided because a driver had been under the influence. The scene ended in the death of one student. Student participants included members of the school's drama club.

School principal John Lombardi said his goal wasn't to scare his students, but to give them something to think about before they head to prom this year, which was held Saturday, May 20, and consider the risks when taking part in different summer activities.
