Haggen, a Pacific Northwest grocery chain, will acquire 146 stores as part of the divestment process brought about by the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) review of the Albertson's and Safeway merger.
Because of the acquisition, Haggen will grow from 18 stores to 164 stores. It plans to convert all 146 locations, located in five states, within the next five months.
The Monroe Albertsons (19881 SR 2) was the first store Haagen converted on Feb. 12.
The Monroe Haagen is celebrating its opening with a local farmer event on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center (17001 Tester Road). Local farmers and non-profits are invited for the opportunity to partner with Haggen, which tries to carry local products when possible.
