Monroe Correctional in lockdown following multi-offender fight

The Washington State Reformatory Unit of the Monroe Correctional Complex remains on lockdown today, after a fight broke out among multiple inmates in the outdoor yard around 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17.
The fight started around 6 p.m. Monday, with several of the offending suspects sustaining minor injuries. No prison staff were injured during the incident.
Comprised of five separate facilities, the reformatory unit was the only one placed into lockdown Monday, and investigators are still piecing together what led to the fight, said Susan Biller, Monroe Correctional Complex public information officer.
Biller said standard procedure with multi-offenders is to interview them and keep them segregated from the rest of the prison population while the investigation is ongoing.
