Children's Programs:
  • Ready Readers, Toddler Storytime: Wednesdays, Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 10:30 a.m. Stories, music and movements that nurture the desire to read in toddlers. Playtime or craft may follow. For ages 18 months to 3 years. Caregiver required.
  • Ready Readers, Preschool Storytime: Thursdays, Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, 10 a.m. Books, sing-along songs, and creative activities that prepare young minds for reading. For ages 3-5.
  • Ready Readers, Preschool Storytime (Bilingual): Thursdays, Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, 11 a.m. Books, sing-along songs, and creative activities that prepare young minds for reading. For ages 3-5. Presented in English and Spanish.
  • Ready Readers, Baby and Me Storytime: Tuesdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29, 10:30 a.m. Stories, songs, rhymes, and activities that inspire a love of reading. Playtime follows. For newborns through 18 months. Caregiver required.
  • Winter Extravaganza, Orange Pomander Craft: Thursday, Jan. 3, 1 p.m. This festive craft pairs oranges with cloves to make a decoration that smells good too!
  • Winter Crafts: Friday, Jan. 4, 1 p.m. Winter crafts to make and take.
  • Winter Science Extravaganza: Robot Garage from the Museum of Flight: Saturday, Jan. 5, 1 p.m. Explore robotics kits and discover some amazing root achievements. Grades 4 and up. Space is limited, preregister online.
  • Reading with Rover: Saturday, Jan. 26, 11 a.m. The Reading with Rover program is designed to help kids strengthen reading skills and improve reading confidence.
Adult Programs:
  • Wednesday Writers: Wednesdays, Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 7 p.m. Weekly support and writing guidance, by published author Bernadette Pajer. All writers welcome, fiction and non-fiction.
  • Librarians as Information Guides: Downloading eBooks at Your Library: Saturday, Jan. 5, 10 a.m. Learn to download free eBooks and audiobooks through Sno-Isle's website. If you'd like to download a book during class, please bring your laptop and eReader or audio device, or your Wi-Fi enabled device. Seating is limited, so please preregister.
  • ESL Talk Time: Mondays, Jan. 7, 14 and 28, 7 p.m. A time for adults to practice speaking English in a friendly and supportive setting. This free, drop-in program is led by a library volunteer.
  • Basic Food Outreach: Tuesday, Jan.8, noon. Stop by the table in the lobby to get information and have your questions answered about the DSHS Basic Food Program between noon and 2 p.m.
  • Monroe Book Group, "Flower ConfidentialGÇ¥: Tuesday, Jan. 8, 7 p.m. This month's book selection is "Flower ConfidentialGÇ¥ by Amy Stewart. Copies are available for checkout at the Customer Service Desk.
  • Friends of the Monroe Library Meeting: -áTuesday, Jan.15, 7 p.m. Guests and new members are always welcome.
  • eReader Class: Saturday, Jan. 19, 2 to 4 p.m. Staff will be available to show users how to use an eReader and how to download books to it. Help is available on a first come, first serve basis. No appointments are necessary.
  • The End of the Trail: How the Western Movie Rode into the Sunset: Thursday, Jan. 24, 7 p.m. The Western was popular for the first 70 years of film history. But during a tumultuous period in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the "revisionistGÇ¥ Western took up a fiercely critical argument with the past: In the disillusioned age of the counterculture and Vietnam, you could no longer distinguish heroes from villains by the color of their hats. Movie critic Robert Horton will lead a discussion asking how movies reflect the history and culture of their times.
  • Beginning Catalog and Internet Class: Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m.
  • Learn to search the Internet, access library databases, set up an email account and use the library catalog. Please pre-register at the Information Desk or by calling the library.
