Children's Programs:
Ready Readers, Baby and Me Storytime: Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23 and 30, 10:30 a.m. Stories, songs, rhymes, and activities that inspire a love of reading. Playtime follows. For newborns through 18 months. Caregiver required.
Ready Readers, Toddler Storytime: Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24 and 31, 10 a.m. AND 11 a.m. Stories, music and movements that nurture the desire to read in toddlers. Playtime or craft July follow. For ages 18 months to 3 years. Caregiver required.
Ready Readers, Preschool Storytime: Thursdays, July 11, 18 and 25, 10 a.m. Books, sing-along songs, and creative activities that prepare young minds for reading. For ages 3-5.
Ready Readers, Preschool Storytime (Bilingual): Thursdays, July 11, 18 and 25, 11 a.m. Books, sing-along songs, and creative activities that prepare young minds for reading. For ages 3-5. Presented in English and Spanish.
Trolls, Dig into Mischief! : Tuesday, July 2, 2 p.m. Sneak into a troll's cave. Hear trickster tales and build a pinecone troll. For ages 5-12.
Dinosaurs!: Tuesday, July 9, 2 p.m. What did the dinosaurs leave behind? Let's dig in and find out!
Roo to You: Saturday, July 13, 2 p.m. A unique opportunity to learn about kangaroos and to see a real live joey. Cameras permitted. Quiet required.
What's Up Down Under?: Tuesday, July 16, 2 p.m. Discover a wriggling worm world through stories, songs and craft. For children 6 years of age and older.
Things That Go Bump in the Night: Tuesday, July 23, 2 p.m. Have you ever woken up in the morning and realized that the shadows and sounds that scared you during the night were easy to explain? Our imaginations can influence what we see, hear, feel, touch and smell. See if we can trick your senses with a few illusions.
Reading with Rover: Saturday, July 27, 11 a.m.: The Reading with Rover program is designed to help kids strengthen reading skills and improve reading confidence.
Teen Programs:
Junior Monroe Wednesday Writers: Wednesdays, July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31, 4:30 p.m. Support and guidance for teen writers, led by published author Bernadette Pajer and Teen Librarian Lindsay Hanson. All writers in grades 6-12 are welcome.
Tanabata Celebration: Monday, July 8, 2 p.m.Celebrate Tanabata, the Japanese Star Festival by creating Tanabata wishes, making origami, enjoying Japanese snacks and watching the popular animated film "Spirited Away.GÇ¥
Teen Gaming: Tuesday, July 25, 2 p.m. Bring friends or drop in and make some new ones. Enjoy Wii, Wii U, XBOX Kinect and PlayStation 2 games including Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Mario Kart and more. Board games and snacks available. For ages 12 to 18.
Adult Programs:
ESL Talk Time: Mondays, July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, 7 p.m. A time for adults to practice speaking English in a friendly and supportive setting. This free, drop-in program is led by a library volunteer.
Wednesday Writers: Wednesdays, July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, 7 p.m. Weekly support and writing guidance, by published author Bernadette Pajer. All writers welcome, fiction and non-fiction.
Basic Food Outreach: Tuesday, July 9, 2 p.m. Stop by the table in the lobby to get information and have your questions answered about the DSHS Basic Food Program between 2 and 4 p.m.
Monroe Book Group, "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand:GÇ¥ Tuesday, July 14, 7 p.m. This month's book selection is "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson. Copies are available for checkout at the Customer Service Desk.
Friends of the Monroe Library: Tuesday, July 16, 7 p.m. Guests and new members are always welcome. The Friends are the generous folks who help raise funds for library programs for children, teens and adults.
All Ages:
Finding Bigfoot: Tuesday, July 16, 7 p.m. Tyler Bounds, local Bigfoot researcher and crew member of Animal Planet's "Finding Bigfoot,GÇ¥ will share information and evidence of the existence of Bigfoot in Washington and other areas nationwide.
