Children's Programs:
Name the Critter Contest: June 22-August 10. Enter an interesting, creative name for the gopher and win! Here are some facts to help: the pocket gopher lives in long tunnels underneath the earth. They use their large, front teeth and claws to break up rock and soil and to dig through miles of dirt. They are called "pocketGÇ¥ gophers because they have two large pouches in their cheeks where they keep food. There are two different species of gopher that live in Washington.
Reading with Rover: Saturday, June 22, 11 a.m. The Reading with Rover program is designed to help kids strengthen reading skills and improve reading confidence.
Summer Reading Kickoff with Pacific Science Center: Saturday, June 29, 2 p.m. It's Fossil Time! Unearth the answers to some of nature's oldest questions. Dig through the layers of history to discover how sediments, volcanoes, and the Grand Canyon help unlock the mysteries of life here on Earth.
Teen Programs:
Monroe Library Teen Advisory Board: Tuesday, June 4, 3:30 p.m. Enjoy some snacks, share ideas for library programs, talk about books and earn volunteer credits.
Junior Wednesday Writers: Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19 and 26, 4:30 p.m. Weekly support and writing guidance, by published author Bernadette Pajer. All writers welcome, fiction and non-fiction.
Dance Dance Revolution Contest: Tuesday, June 18, 2 p.m. Contestants will compete for DDR points in order to win prizes.
Teen Movie, "Rise of the Guardians:GÇ¥ Tuesday, June 25, 2 p.m. Watch " Rise of the Guardians" with friends and enjoy some snacks. Participants will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a copy of the DVD.
Adult Programs:
ESL Talk Time: Mondays, June 3, 10, 17 and 24, 7 p.m. A time for adults to practice speaking English in a friendly and supportive setting. This free, drop-in program is led by a library volunteer.
Wednesday Writers: Wednesdays, June 5, 12, 19 and 26, 7 p.m. Weekly support and writing guidance, by published author Bernadette Pajer. All writers welcome, fiction and non-fiction.
Basic Food Outreach: Tuesday, June 11, 2 p.m. Stop by the table in the lobby to get information and have your questions answered about the DSHS Basic Food Program between 2 and 4 p.m.
Monroe Book Group, "The Zookeeper's Wife:GÇ¥ Tuesday, June 11, 7 p.m. This month's selection is "The Zookeeper's WifeGÇ¥ by Diane Ackerman. Copies are available for checkout at the Customer Service Desk.
EBooks for Kindle Users:-á Thursday, June 27, 2 to 4 p.m. This free class includes a demonstration of how to download, read, and return eBooks with a Kindle. Help will be provided for setting up your device to access library materials. There is time included for questions and one-on-one help. Drop-ins are welcome.
