The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Monroe is hosting a family-friendly community barbecue at its Monroe mosque this weekend. The event is free, and all are invited to attend.
The Monroe Community BBQ takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's Abode of Kindness Mosque located at 23515 Old Owen Road in Monroe. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community moved to the Monroe area late last year, after outgrowing its Lynnwood mosque.
Members of the peaceful Islamic sect have been working to become integrated in the Monroe community, and have spent time communicating with neighbors to dispel negative rumors about Islam.
During its time in Monroe, the Ahmadiyya community has hosted an interfaith conference, a women promoting peace presentation and a blood drive. Last month, the community donated monthly snack bags to Monroe nonprofit Take the Next Step (TTNS), to help support the TTNS Kidz Club program.
The barbecue is meant to be an inclusive, community building even. For questions, email info@amiseattle.org.
