Police arrested a 44-year-old Monroe man for burglary on Thursday, several hours after he allegedly threw a cinder block through the Monroe Shell station on State Route 2 and helped himself to cartons of cigarettes, cases of beer and several scratch tickets.
Monroe Police report the man was seen on video surveillance entering the Shell store in the 19300 block of SR 2 after a cinder block came through around 5 a.m. Thursday, June 23. After stealing the merchandise, police report he left the same was, leaving behind a jacket he placed on the bottom of the window.
An officer who had seen the surveillance video spotted the suspect at walking down North Kelsey Street at 11:52 a.m., taking him into custody after a short foot chase. Inside his pants, police report finding a scratch ticket, 5-Hour Energy drink and a pack of Marlboros, which was the brand stolen during the burglary.
