Monroe Police investigating assault at correctional complex

The Monroe Correctional Complex on Monday cancelled evening visits and programs and put the Washington State Reformatory Unit on restricted movement following an assault by two inmates against another in the outdoor yard of the WSRU.
According to a news release, the assault occurred around 1:20 p.m. Monday and was stopped after correctional officers in the towers of the WSRU fired two warning shots.
The victim of the assault was evaluated at an area hospital and then returned to the facility. The Monroe Police Department is investigating.
The WSRU houses more than 700 medium- and minimum-custody offenders and is one of five facilities at the correctional complex, and all other units remained under normal operations on Monday.
