Update: The body of a man in his 30s was recovered from Woods Creek, according to a news release. His body was spotted in a log jam around 8:21 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16. The conductor told police he saw the man lying between the rails, and he immediately put on the emergency brake. The victim reportedly attempted to get up and move out of the way, but was not quick enough to avoid being struck by the train.
The Monroe Police Department reports someone apparently walking on train tracks at State Route 2 and Woods Creek Road was struck by a train around 6 a.m. Tuesday, causing a road closure for several hours at SR 2 and East Main Street.
The Snohomish County Dive Team is currently in the process of recovering the body, which is believed to be male, according to Monroe Police administrative director Debbie Willis.
Train operators reported seeing a person on the tracks and feeling the collision. Officers responded and began searching from the trellis, but it was dark at the time, Willis said. They eventually spotted a body in Woods Creek.
Willis said more information is expected to be released as details come in.
The intersection was reopened at 10 a.m.
