Finalists for Monroe Public Schools' next superintendent will be quizzed by the community during three forums this week. After several hours of interviews on Saturday, three candidates have been invited back as finalists.
On Tuesday, March 3, the forum will feature Dr. Michelle Johnstone, superintendent of Brush School District in Brush, Colorado.
On Wednesday, March 4, Tim Nootenboom, executive director for Elementary Teaching and Learning for Central Valley School District near Spokane will be the featured candidate.
Dr. Fredrika Smith, chief academic officer for the Puyallup School District, will be in Monroe on Thursday, March 5.
Each forum is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Monroe High School (17001 Tester Road).
It is expected the board will announce the hiring of the next superintendent by the end of March for a smooth transition from retiring Dr. Ken Hoover to the new person.
The Monroe School District Board of Directors will be meeting in regular and executive session on March 3, 4 and 5 for the superintendent search process, which will include finalist interviews, site visitations and board deliberation.
Each day, one of the finalists will follow the same schedule:
8 a.m. - Conversation with Hoover and Pam Swanburg (Administration Building, 200 E. Fremont)
8:45 a.m. - MHS student-led tour (Monroe High School,17001 Tester Road)
10 a.m. - Sky Valley Education Center tour (Sky Valley Education Center, 351 Short Columbia St.)
11:15 a.m. - Meet with Administrative Building staff (Board Room, Administration Building, 200 E. Fremont)
11:45 a.m. - Brown bag lunch with Cabinet (Board Room, Administration Building, 200 E. Fremont)
12:30 p.m. - Meet with principals (Board Room, Administration Building, 200 E. Fremont)
1:30 p.m. - Meet with maintenance, grounds, transportation and tech staff (Transportation Department,1410 W. Main St.)
2:30 p.m. - Meet secondary staff (Staff Room, Park Place Middle School, 1408 W. Main St.)
3:30 p.m. - Meet with elementary staff (Staff Room, Chain Lake Elementary School, 12125 Chain Lake Road)
5 p.m. - Dinner with school board (Monroe High School,17001 Tester Road)
6:30 p.m. - Community forum (Performing Arts Center, Monroe High School,17001 Tester Road)
7:30 p.m. - School board interview (Library, Monroe High School,17001 Tester Road, executive session)
8:30 p.m. School board debrief (Library, Monroe High School,17001 Tester Road, executive session)
All sessions are open to the public, except for executive sessions.
