Next month will bring a large new festival to Monroe, courtesy of the producers of Bite of Seattle and Taste of Tacoma.
Called Oktoberfest Monroe, it will be a large three-day festival of German beer, food and music at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds the weekend of Sept. 20-22.
A similar event at the Puyallup fairgrounds, produced by the same group, has been a success for the last eight years.
Among the attractions planned for the event, which is sponsored in part by Alaska Airlines and Safeway, are a 5K Stein Dash, in which runners get a cold beer at the finish line, contests, dancing, German food including pretzels, strudel, bratwurst and more, and a Family Fest Zone with activities for all ages.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets will be $10 for those 12 and up Friday and Saturday, with the exception of Friday before 3 p.m. when admission will be free. Sunday is half-price.
