Players from the Everett and Monroe Lacrosse clubs (with some Snohomish, Stanwood and Overlake players) converged on Kasch Park in Everett Friday, Aug. 23, in hopes of beating the record for the longest lacrosse game ever played, to raise money for the 2014 season.
The teams played for 14 hours, 2 minutes, beating the previous time of just over 13 hours.-áPlay started at 7:30 p.m. Friday night and ended around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Everett was first to reach 100 goals and Monroe, who rallied back from a 10-point deficit during the game, eventually reached the 100 goal mark. In the last 25 seconds of the game Monroe came back to win the game with a final score of 134-133.
The teams both had a great time and enjoyed the experience and camaraderie.
Garry Hartzell, Monroe Lacrosse President, watched his team play with all the heart they had.-á"They just kept fighting. This can-do attitude will carry over into the spring season. Failure is not an option. It's time to get onboard before you are left in the dust,GÇ¥ said Hartzell.
Both clubs sought sponsors to help raise funds for the upcoming season.-áAll in all, about $10,000 was raised.-áThe Monroe players raised about $3,500.-áWarrior Lacrosse helped sponsor the event and provided several exciting prizes.
Monroe sponsors included: Cadman Heidelberg Cement Group, LDC (Land Development Consultants), Universal Land Construction Company, Drywall Distributors, Johansen Mechanical, Keithly Electric Company, Reiner Farms and Beckwith & Kuffel.
