Monroe woman jailed for assault with a deadly weapon


A Monroe woman remains incarcerated at the Snohomish County Jail after she allegedly shot her boyfriend in the leg.
The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, on Old Pipeline Road northeast of Monroe. According to court documents, police were alerted to the scene by the woman, who called 911 and reported that she had shot her boyfriend, and that he was in need of medical attention. The woman was arrested on charges of Assault II Domestic Violence with a weapon, and is being held on $100,000 bail.
The couple had been dating for approximately two months.
A report written by a Snohomish County Sheriff's Department Detective gave a detailed account of what had occurred, as expressed by the woman.
According to the woman, after spending the day together, the couple returned to her trailer and drank some alcoholic beverages. They began to argue, at which point the woman asked her boyfriend to leave. She described the argument as "non-physicalGÇ¥ and explained to detectives that he was simply "being a jerk.GÇ¥
The man left the trailer, only to return a few minutes later, expressing through the door that he had left the keys to his vehicle inside the residence. The woman reported that she answered the door armed with a nine-millimeter pistol which she had retrieved from underneath her mattress. The couple continued to argue and the woman told detectives that she eventually displayed the weapon because she began to fear that he would become assaultive.
After arguing briefly over the gun's authenticity, the woman told detectives that she "racked a round and shot him.GÇ¥
The woman's mother, who lives in a house on the property, came and removed the firearm from the woman's possession, as well as the woman's two-year-old son who was sleeping on a couch inside the trailer while the events transpired.
Police have notified CPS of the incident.
The woman told the detectives that her boyfriend had not been physically abusive, nor had he caused her any injury. She stated that while she was not in fear of death or injury, she had acted in "self-defense.GÇ¥
No injuries were discovered on the woman during investigation of the crime scene. The woman's mother allowed detectives to search her home and recover the firearm. Detectives also located two empty nine-millimeter magazines with ammunition in the trailer underneath the woman's mattress.
The victim's car keys were located inside a coat pocket and the coat was found just inside the front door of the trailer. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center for emergency treatment of an apparent gunshot wound to his thigh.
When questioned by detectives in the hospital, shortly before undergoing emergency surgery, his story coincided with the woman's. His injuries were reported by police as being "non-life threatening.GÇ¥
The victim's current condition is not known at this time.
