New wakeboard event kicks off water sports season on Lake Tye

The first annual INT Dust Off the Rust water sports competition brought aquatic athletes to ride the chilly surface of Lake Tye Saturday.
Deno Maedgen, Washington State Coordinator for the INT saluted the crowd after his early Sunday ski run in the Men's Novice Class on the Lake Tye course in Monroe.
"That was my best run ever," he crowed, once back on the dock.
The event was open to waterskiing, wakeboard, wakeskates, kneeboard and wakesurf.
The INT has been hosting water sports events in Washington since 1983, and is welcoming to people of all skill levels.
After the competition, there was an awards ceremony at Sockeye's Restaurant.
The event was the third of its kind to be drawn to Lake Tye for its smooth water surface and proximity to spectators. The MasterCraft Pro Wakebarod Tour, the largest of the events, will come to Monroe July 12-13.
