Monroe Police searching for another suspect

Monroe Police arrested a 26-year-old Mukilteo man and are searching for another suspect in an attempted robbery at Walmart on Tuesday morning.

A news release states officers responded to Walmart, 19191 N. Kelsey St., at 9:12 a.m. on Oct. 17, where an employee told police two men had attempted to leave the store with nearly $600 in merchandise.

That employee struggled with one of the suspects, who was carrying a pink baseball bat, and the cart tipped over, according to the release. The two suspects left in a multicolored Mitsubishi Lancer, and police report the driver was seen waving the bat outside the window.

Lake Stevens Police reported 1 1/2 hours later that the vehicle had crashed into a a tree at Grade Road and State Route 92, and one man had been detained.

An MPD investigator responded to the crash site and took Charles Duling into custody, and he was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on a first-degree robbery charge.

Police are waiting for a warrant to search the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Everett and had been spray painted green, according to the release.

Police report Duling admitted to being involved in the attempted robbery, and had planned to trade the stolen items for heroin from his drug dealer.
