One man is dead after a fire consumed a home Monday night on Maycreek Road in Gold Bar.

The call came in at about 8:59 p.m., with local responders arriving around 9:07 p.m., said Gold Bar Fire Lt. Brandon Vargas.

“When we arrived the whole house was fully involved,” he said. “Fire was coming out of every window and door, and was extending to a garage attached by a covered breezeway.”

Only a portion of two walls were left standing once the flames died down, Vargas said. In all, around 20 firefighters were dispatched to the blaze.

Because the fire happened in an area that doesn't have any hydrants, King County Fire District 50 and Snohomish Fire Districts 5 and 7 were also called to haul in tenders — tankers that transport water during an emergency, Vargas said. He said he decided to call in more help once he arrived at the home.

The roof collapsed within 10 minutes of when the first responders arrived on scene, he said.

Vargas said there was at least one man inside the home that did not make it out. Snohomish County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said because there was no suspicious activity, no investigation will be conducted.

According to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office, an autopsy is being conducted on the man and he may be identified as early as Wednesday.
