Monroe's Fair Days Parade will have a new central viewing area this year, located on the lawn of Wagner Performing Arts Center.
The city will provide bleachers for additional seating at the new Parade Central, and the judges will score the parade entries from a stand at that location.
There will be a lot of amenities at Parade Central that will be new to the event this year, including vendors and food booths with such things as kettle corn, shaved ice, face painting and Monroe's Hook and Ladder BBQ.
DJ Big Dog Jerry Dixon will provide music for street dancing starting at 9 a.m.
The relocation of the judge's stand from the end of the route to the middle helps entrants give their best presentations to the judges, said Annique Bennett, director of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
"For decades the reviewing stand was at the very end of the parade route. By the time performers made it there, they were exhausted," she said. "Wagner has such great space and central location where more people can gather and really have fun."
Providence Medical Center Monroe is title sponsor of the parade, and will have a booth, as well as a large float to celebrate the grand opening of the new clinic on North Kelsey this September.
"We are so excited to be part of this fun community event," said Providence Communications Director Cheri Rassmussen, "And we look forward to opening our new location in Monroe."
Presenting sponsors of the parade include EvergreenHealth, now affiliated with Monroe Valley General Hospital, and Promociones Nayarit, producers of Monroe's traditional Mexican rodeos.
The parade takes place Saturday, Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with dancing and DJ music starting at 9 a.m.
