The pilot of an experimental plane had a rough landing at about 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Monroe airport when his propellor fell off.
The pilot, a Duvall man of 50, said that, shortly after takeoff, he lost the propellor and attempted to glide back to the runway. But he wasn't able to reach the runway, and the plane went down in a field to the west of the landing strip.
The plane was damaged; the right landing gear collapsed and the fuselage was crumpled, but the pilot escaped uninjured.
A citizen who saw the crash called 911, and police and fire responded to Firstair Field.
The FAA was notified.
