The Monroe Police Department has identified a suspect in a rash of burglaries that occurred in strip malls north of State Route 2 in late September. He’s currently being held in the King County Jail on separate burglary charges.
An MPD news release states 21-year-old Dresean Alston of Everett was identified as a suspect through the testing of a latent print lifted from a cash register at one of 10 businesses between Old Owen Road and State Route 522 hit on Sept. 28-29. The Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory handled the fingerprint testing.
Alston allegedly caused $5,000-$7,000 in damages between the businesses, which were notified of his identification as a suspect on Thursday, Oct. 11. All had windows smashed to gain entry, and some, but not all had cash stolen from their registers.
The MPD reports other law enforcement agencies have contacted the department regarding similar cases in which Alston may be a suspect. Those cases remain under investigation, according to the news release.
Monroe Police have forwarded burglary charges to the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office.
