Registration starts for fifth annual Jayme Biendl Memorial Run

It's time again to sign up for the Officer Jayme Biendl Memorial Run, this being the fifth year runners can support the Behind the Badge Foundation and honor the former Monroe Correctional Complex officer who was killed by an inmate in 2011.

The 5K run starts 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Sky River Park, 818 Village Way, and runs down West Main Street, south on 177th to East Main Street and back to the park.

Biendl, 34, was killed in 2011 by Byron Eugene Scherf while she was working inside the chapel at the correctional complex. Scherf was sentenced to death following his murder conviction in 2013.
