Richard "Dick" Roesler

Richard "Dick" Roesler was born to William and Susan (Schalo) Roesler on their family farm in Startup, WA on August 27, 1925. He passed away peacefully in Monroe on June 9. He attended Startup Elementary School and graduated from Sultan High School, class of 1944.
A standout high school athlete in both basketball and football, Dick was later in the inaugural group of alumni to be inducted in the Sultan High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Washington, playing football for one season before joining the Navy during World War II. Upon returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Banta, on March 12, 1948. They were married for 65 years before she passed away in 2013.
In 1949 Dick bought his first power saw, beginning a long logging career. He drove logging trucks and worked in the woods before forming Roesler Timber Company in 1952, with his dad and two brothers.
An avid Seattle sports fan, he never missed watching a Seahawks or Mariners game. Dick also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Sharing an amazing relationship with his wife, he and Betty made many trips to Hawaii and Alaska, and enjoyed snow birding in Arizona and Southern California. A devoted grandfather, he combined his passion for sports with watching his grandchildren's activities and his happiest times were those spent surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters Joan and Donna, and great-grandson, William.
Dick is survived by his son Richard and wife Carole Roesler of Anchorage, AK; his daughter Cindy and husband Rick McDaniel of Sultan; and daughter Kelli and husband Don Bersano of Edmonds. He was a proud grandpa to Kevin McDaniel (Janel), Hunter Roesler, Tiffany Bersano (Cary), Ashley Bersano (Billy), and Ryley Bersano (Shelby); and great-grandpa to Madison McDaniel, Crosby Roesler, and Lilyann Walker. He also leaves his brothers, Oliver (Maureen) and Frank (Nancy); his sisters, June (Bert) Carnes and Susan Scoby; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held on Friday, June 19, at the Startup Seventh Day Adventist Church followed by burial at the Sultan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Sultan Fire Department. The family extends their thanks to the staff at Brookdale and Evergreen Hospital in Monroe for their care.Richard "Dick" Roesler
