Shirley Rae Curtis Shirley Rae Curtis, 90, peacefully passed away with her husband and family by her side on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Monroe, Washington. Shirley was born on January 10, 1924 in Flandreau, South Dakota to Clarence and Ina Peterson. In 1944 she married Alanson Kidder Curtis, Jr., this June they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Shirley and Alan had three sons; Lanny Curtis (passed away 1988; Ann Sorenson), Don Sward (Gerry), and Greg Curtis (Cathy); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; Wendi Warren (Dan, Sawyer, B.T), Troy Curtis(Janelle, Tyler, Tanner, Emily), Angie Clark (Chip, Sammie, Alex, Adrian), Tiffany Proctor (Chad, Kennady), Cameron Keefe (Becky, Olivia, Sofia), Marcie Faaborg (Jason, Chelsea, Jake, Anna), Tim Curtis (Sam), Ben Curtis (Kris, Rain, Cassie). Shirley retired from her teaching career at Machias Elementary in 1979 and spent her retirement years being very active in the Snohomish and Sultan communities and churches, traveling as snowbirds, and in her later years was active in the Monroe Merrill Gardens community. Special thanks to Regency Care Center of Monroe and to Dr. Mark Raney for the wonderfully tender care they provided to our Gram. Memorial arrangements s are being coordinated by Purdy& Kerr with Dawson of Monroe Washington. Memorial Services will be held at the Sultan First Baptist Church, 315 8th St., Sultan, WA 98294 on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 1 p.m. 'My Legacy' Told by Shirley to great granddaughter Chelsea Adams on June 28, 2007 When I die, give what is left to the children. If you need to cry, cry for the brother who is walking beside you. Put your arms around anyone, and give them what you need to give to me. I want to leave you with something, something better than words or sounds. Look for me in the people I have known and loved, and if you cannot live without me, then let me live on in your eyes, your mind, and your acts of kindness. Love does not die, people do. So when all that is left of me is love, give me away.
