A celebration with more than 250 players, family members and friends was held at Rotary Field on Saturday as Sky Valley Little League (SVLL) held their annual jamboree, SVLL's annual fundraising day to help raise money to offset the costs associated with running the league and to promote the sponsors that help support the league.
Players and parents were given the chance to dunk their favorite coach in the dunk tank while other players flexed their muscle during the home run hitting contest. Baskets that contained prizes, which were created by each team, were raffled off at the end of the day. Some families went home with some prizes ranging from Mariners or Seahawks gear to fishing trips and money trees.
The festivities began with a speech by the president of the league, Roger Braaten, thanking the sponsors, coaches, umpires, team parents and board members for all of their support and hard work. Monroe's mayor, Geoffrey Thomas, spoke to the crowd about implementing his vision of improving the quality of the sports fields in Monroe to truly make them useable all year round.
Then SVLL players Erica Gillis, Nadia Stein and Carly Nielsen sang the national anthem. These softball players showed they have talent both on and off of the field.
Trey Lauren, who spent 21 days at Children's hospital and had over 13 surgeries after contracting the flesh eating bacteria Necrotizing Fasciitis threw out the first pitch to Everett Aquasox mascot Webbly who was in attendance. Trey was a player in SVLL for many years and seemed to be truly humbled by all of the attention he was getting, even posing for pictures with a lot of the players.
