Sonja Teresia Boyes April 14, 1927 - March 20, 2018

Sonja Teresia Boyes, born April 14, 1927 in Ivo, Skane, Sweden to Carl and Teodora Carlson, departed peacefully to heaven with her sons at her side on March 20, 2018 in Monroe, Washington. She was 90.

When she was one year old, Sonja’s family relocated to Monroe, where she would live the rest of her life. Sonja graduated from Monroe High School, Class of 1945. She met the love of her life, William Boyes, and they were married in 1946.
Sonja enjoyed golf. She was the Monroe and Blue Boy Ladies Golf Champion several times. She liked camping and swimming, and traveling in the Western States and Canada. Sonja was a great cook and hostess, and enjoyed her family the most. She especially enjoyed golf and cards with her grandson Ricky, and was his best friend.
Sonja was a longtime member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and was a very active supporter of church functions.
Sonja is survived by her husband of 71 years, William, sons William Boyes of Monroe and Richard Boyes (Laura) of Bothell, sister Carol Weiss (Rudi) of Bellingham, grandchildren Ricky Boyes, Katie Boyes (Dave Holmberg), and Teresa Boyes, and great-granddaughter Amelia Holmberg. She was preceded in death by both her parents, brother Evert, and sisters Essy and Karen.
Sonja was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Monroe United Methodist Church on a date yet to be determined. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
