An artisanal bar of soap or a luxurious bath gel are among those luxuries that moms might not ever buy for themselves, but that make a great Mother's Day gift.
At Heavenly Soaps in Monroe, soaps not only come in a vast array of scents, they are all-natural and good for the skin, said Patti Rois Gibbons, who three years ago opened her small, colorful shop behind E-Man Data Recovery and across Blakeley Street from the Post Office.
The ingredients of all her soaps are listed above the counter: coconut oil, olive oil, palm kernel oil, castor oil, lye, water and fragrance are all that are in her soaps.
Fragrances are natural, too, and there are no artificial colorings.
Soaps come in 40 different scents. The most popular is lemongrass and spearmint, but brown sugar and fig is quite popular, too, as is honeysuckle and blackberry sage.
Each soap is already attractively wrapped, but Gibbons will make up gift baskets, as well.
A gift basket could include a number of fragrant soaps, including specialty soaps such as sulfur soap for problem skin or coffee grounds soap for getting the scent of onion and garlic off the hands after cooking. Then it could include a bath gel, a fizzing bath "bombGÇ¥, a bottle of shampoo or conditioner, and even massage oil, which Gibbons formulated with the help of a nearby massage therapist.
In addition to those products, the store contains a number of other locally-sourced craft items, including aprons made in Lynnwood and candles made in Woodinville.
And for a ready-made gift, pick up a "spa in a jar,GÇ¥ a Mason jar that contains bath products, a hot chocolate pack and more for a luxurious afternoon of self-pampering.
All Gibbons' soaps are made in a kitchen right behind the counter, where Gibbons prepares fresh soaps every day.
She takes great pride in her product, which she has shipped to all 50 states.
"It's the best soap you'll ever use,GÇ¥ she said.
