Speed, demolition, daredevil stunts drives crowd at state fair

With the heart-pounding stunts, fast cars and brightly colored fireworks, Evergreen Speedway operators Doug and Traci Hobbs stole the show over Labor Day weekend at the Evergreen State Fair.

The Demolition Derby held on Sunday, Sept. 6, featured Figure 8s, Stinger 8s, rollover contests and stunts by Monroe's own Mike "Mr. DizzyGÇ¥ Buse. Buse is president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and owns and operates Genesis Refrigeration & HVAC and Mr. Dizzy Motorsports. The stuntman began his racing career at Evergreen Speedway more than 20 years ago, and has been performing stunts ever since.

He holds multiple world records for his stunts, and in 2013 starred-áon the History Channel's American Daredevils television series.




Buse performed two stunts during the Demolition Derby. In the first, he circled the track one time in a sedan-style vehicle before using a small "kicker rampGÇ¥ to jump over 10 cars that were lined up three rows deep. Then, he blew himself up in a small minivan, successfully emerging from the van unscathed.

Figure 8s: Tommy Gapp, first place; Rich Groshong, second place; Doug Delfel, third place

Stinger 8s: Toby Jenkins, first place; Matt Sommerville, second place; Branden Lindberg, third place

Demo Derby: Randy Maykowski, first place; Joey Ensminger, second place; Phil King, third place
