Skiers and snowboarders got an early taste of the winter season Oct. 5 after a sudden storm dumped two feet of snow on the Steven's Pass Ski Resort.
Following the storm, the resort opened for a one-day event called the "Government De-Rail Session." About 400 people showed up to ride a specially-created terrain park in 60 degree weather.
"We couldn't just let this snow go to waste, so we scrambled to put together a six-feature rail park and invited the public to come up and have a little fun,GÇ¥ said Nate Escalona, Stevens Pass Marketing Manager.
The event set a record for the earliest-ever opening of Stevens Pass Mountain Resort, which typically opens in late November.
