"The evening is all about trying to bring families in the community together while raising funds to help support Sultan Community Alliance efforts,GÇ¥ said chairperson Calei Vaughn.-á
The Sultan Community Alliance is a multifaceted, all-volunteer task force dedicated to mitigating the negative impacts of poverty, homelessness and at-risk youth in Sultan. Alliance volunteers clean parks and public places, mentor at-risk youth and are moving forward with plans to apply for a Drug Free Communities grant in 2017.
Vaughn has headed up the alliance since its formation in 2014, and was recently honored as the Sky Valley Citizen of the Year for her community advocacy, including her efforts with the alliance.
The group meets 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month in Sultan City Council chambers, and all are welcome to attend. Alliance efforts are structured through focused committees that target things like social services and public safety, the development of new parks and public places and citywide cleanup efforts.
Keeping Sultan's parks safe and clear of trash and other debris has always been a top priority for alliance volunteers, who have removed tons of garbage from Sultan's public areas. For more information on the Sultan Community Alliance, visit www.facebook.com/SultanCommunityTaskForce/timeline.
