Sultan Junior golfer has stellar summer

While most young athletes were taking a summer off between school sports seasons, Tyler Aamold, 13, of Sultan, was in high gear.
The young golfer, who has already had a distinguished career for one so youthful, was earning himself accolades on the links, the highlight of which was a personal best at a mid-August championship.
At the Joe Richer Championship at the Legion Memorial Golf Tournament in Everett Aug. 13-14, Aamold played to first place in his division and shot a 74 both days, his personal best.
He also racked up two other first-place finishes this summer, both at the Washington Junior Golf Association tournaments July 1 and 15 at the Avalon Golf Course and Country Club in Mill Creek.
And he won a first place in July and a second place in August in Snoqualmie Valley Jr. Golf League events.
It's been a good year, but not the first good year for Aamold. He started playing when he was just 4 when he got a plastic golf set as a gift and demonstrated talent, and has been to State three times, finishing as high as 11th in the past.
He won't go to State this year, but his year is far from over.
"I will be doing tournaments later this summer and in the fall," he said. "I'll practice over the winter, too. I want to be a big competitor in State."
He will play in NW Jr. Golf Tour, which is similar to WJGA, he said.
He credits his family, including parents David and Shannon, for his opportunities, he said.
I've got to give it to my parents and family; they work so hard to support me so I can go play," he said. "They give up what they want to do so I can go have fun, and hopefully get a college scholarship for golf. I'm really thankful to have them as parents."
His grandfather, Art King, also spends a lot of time driving him around, he said, and his grandmother likes to buy him golf clothes.
"It's almost my whole entire family," he said. "My other grandparents support me, too; they go to tournaments."
