Sultan man claims forgotten Powerball ticket in time for $50,000 payout

April Fools' Day timing made winner think he was pranked

Washington’s Lottery reports a Sultan man who purchased a Powerball ticket last November and then forgot about it until April 1 thought he was being pranked when he saw he’d won $50,000.

“I saw the ticket sitting by the window and realized I never checked it,” said the man in a news release. “I used the Washington’s Lottery app to scan the ticket, but when I saw it was a winner, I thought it was an April Fool’s Day prank!”

The man, whom Washington’s Lottery reports wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the ticket at the Red Apple in Sultan for the Nov. 16 Powerball drawing.

The winner says he plans to use the prize money to pay off bills, make home repairs and possibly buy a new hot tub.
