Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick has been the victim of burglary twice in three days; her car was broken into on Sunday evening and then today, her home.-á The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating both burglaries.
Eslick, who lives in the Eagle Ridge area of Sultan, said that she was home on Sunday night, when a thief or thieves broke into her vehicle, stealing several items. Then, on Tuesday morning, Feb. 25, she left with her husband at approximately 10:45 a.m. for an 11 a.m. appointment. When they returned home around 12:45 p.m., they found the front door unsecured, and the home burglarized.
Many items of value including her computer, jewelry and her husband's medications were discovered to be missing.
Eslick stated that items taken from her vehicle included a digital notebook that she had been planning on returning, along with a wireless router for her business, GROW Washington. She also noted that she had a stack of business cards in the vehicle, left over from a recent meeting.
"They knew I was the mayor,GÇ¥ said Eslick.
Among the items missing from her home include her computer, a 17-inch Acer brand laptop, a bag containing medications belonging to her husband, Charles Donaldson, along with countless items of her jewelry.
"They took my jewelry drawer and emptied it into my pillowcase,GÇ¥ said Eslick. "Just like you see on TV.GÇ¥
Some distinct items that are missing include a necklace featuring a turn-of-the-century antique watch, an emerald and diamond pinkie ring, and several pearl necklaces; some of which had been Christmas gifts. Many keepsake items were taken including a heart-shaped locket that Eslick had owned since high school.
"It's those kinds of things that you'll never replace or have again,GÇ¥ said Eslick.
Mayor Eslick said that the most important thing to take away from this is to always remember to be vigilant about locking both your home and your vehicle.
"Don't leave things in your cars that you don't want somebody else to own,GÇ¥ said Eslick.
