Sultan to have monthly summer art fair

By Chris Hendrickson, Valley News
GROW Washington in Sultan is hosting a new summer event series called "Artists in Action.GÇ¥
The monthly series will begin on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be set up in the parking area between the new GROW Washington store and Windmill Espresso. Artists will set up booths to display and sell their work, and will be on hand to discuss their craft and answer any questions.
GROW Washington is currently seeking additional artistic vendors to participate in the series which will run on the first Saturday of each month throughout the summer. All artists are welcome to submit three pieces of their work for pre-approval by the GROW Washington panel; applications can be found online or at the Sultan store.
Artists in all mediums are welcome; watercolor, acrylic and oil painters, photographers, woodworkers, pottery, glass, silver and other metal smiths, and leather art.
Gold Bar watercolor-artist Jacquie Miner is helping coordinate the event. Miner has always been artistically inclined, doing black ink sketches for many years. About 10 years ago she became interested in brightening up her work with color. She started learning about working with watercolor, but wasn't really able to fully explore the method until her retirement two years ago.
"This is my passion! I couldn't do it while I was working all the time, but now I'm retired and I can paint,GÇ¥ said Miner.
Miner's paintings include bright renditions of flowers, animals, and various landscapes. She finds inspiration everywhere, often in her own yard. She also travels to places like Flower World in Snohomish and snaps photos of interesting and colorful plants. All of Miner's work is done completely by hand, including the greeting cards she produces from her finished paintings.
Miner's paintings range in price from $20 to $150, and her handcrafted greeting cards are $3 each.
Artists interested in applying to rent space at Artists in Action can download the application from the GROW Washington Facebook page or stop in at the Sultan store which is located at 927, U.S. 2 in Sultan, next to Windmill Espresso. Artists should be local with a current business license. Contact Jacquie Minor with any questions at (360) 789-2146.
Miner is looking forward to meeting other Sky Valley artists.
"We have talent here in the valley,GÇ¥ said Miner.
GROW Washington is a small business incubator dedicated to promoting local entrepreneurial efforts.
