SVEC student places in top 10 in national math competition

Bethany Garver, a sophomore from Sky Valley Education Center, scored 8th place in the national Math Kangaroo competition this year. Garver also placed first in the state competition for her grade level.
This is Garver's second year to compete. Last year she earned 2nd in the state contest.
It is estimated that about 6 million students from 60 countries participated in Math Kangaroo this year.
Garver has always liked math, and is currently taking pre-calculus. She has qualified to take calculus at the college level and plans to enroll in Running Start next year.
Garver has attended Sky Valley Education Center, Monroe Public Schools' parent partnership program, since 2nd grade.
