We recently had a false alarm with the fire station. Someone was walking by Ms.Harkins' room, when they noticed that the room was thick with smoke, and immediately pulled the fire alarm. As the school evacuated excitedly, word went around that Ms. Harkins and her physics class were using the fog machine to do an experiment with lasers. The fog machine was meant for the indoors, so it didn't set off the alarm, and it was a safe and controlled environment. When everyone was on the field and accounted for, Ms.Nesting, our principal, announced that she was dissatisfied with the speed of the evacuation, so an evacuation drill was scheduled two days later. Even though it wasn't a real fire, it's assuring to know that someone will be sure to pull the alarm with no delay.
