Two prison guards hospitalized following alleged assault by inmate

The Monroe Correctional Complex reports two corrections officers were hospitalized Tuesday morning with non-life-threatening injuries following an assault by an inmate in the Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU).
According to the MCC, inmate James Suber, 32, assaulted the two corrections officers after they searched his cell around 9 a.m. Suber allegedly struck one of the guards in the face and then the other when he intervened. One officer required stitches, but both are expected to be released from the hospital today.
Suber is serving a 17-year prison sentence in the WSRU for first-degree burglary with sexual motivation out of Pierce County, which began in 2006.
The WSRU, which houses more than 700 medium and minimum custody offenders, is on restricted movement while the Monroe Police Department and Department of Corrections investigate the incident.
