Monroe Police report attempts to revive a 20-year-old Sultan man found underneath a 1989 Ford Econoline van in the O’Reilly Auto Parts parking lot last Tuesday night were unsuccessful.
Identified by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office Wednesday, Nielsen Walzog is believed by investigators to have attempted to prop the van up on a curb in the parking lot to work on the vehicle on April 18. An MPD news release states employees at the store in the 19000 block of State Route 2 reported Walzog had been in and out throughout the day, working on the van in the parking lot.
The vehicle is believed to have slipped off the curb, trapping the man underneath, according to the release.
Fire District 7 crew members were first to arrive Tuesday night, finding the engine still running with Walzog underneath the vehicle. The incident was reported by a couple that had been walking through the parking lot.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner determined Walzog’s cause of death was asphyxia from being pinned under the van and the manner as an accident.
