Monroe Police took two suspects in a Wednesday night robbery at the Cigar Q tobacco shop that ended with a store clerk being struck by the getaway vehicle into custody the next morning.

Officers responded to the tobacco shop in the 19000 block of Lenton Place Southeast around 6:26 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, where they found the 62-year-old clerk with obvious injuries, according to a news release.

Two suspects had entered the store, and could be seen conversing with the Edmonds resident. The men requested a carton of cigarettes, according to the release, and one suspect left the store while the other approached the counter as if to pay. Instead, the suspect allegedly grabbed the cigarette carton and ran out to a black Mercedes where a female driver was waiting.

The clerk chased after the suspects as they were leaving the parking lot, and was struck by the car and knocked to the ground, the release states. He sustained facial injuries and cuts to one of his hands, and was transported to EvergreenHealth in Monroe for treatment.

MPD administrative director Debbie Willis tells the Monitor a 26-year-old man suspected of taking the carton of cigarettes and 25-year-old woman suspected of being the getaway driver were found sleeping inside the suspect vehicle around 8 a.m. Thursday, April 26, and taken into custody, both for first-degree robbery.
