U.S. 2 danger needs more state recognition

Two years ago the U.S. 2 Safety Coalition began a campaign to have Solar Powered LED lights installed in the centerline of U.S. 2 from Bickford Ave. to Skykomish in order to better define the center of this most DANGEROUS highway. Information was presented to both state legislative transportation committees. Your chairman had traveled to Sweden and observed these units on a Swedish highway which was similar to U.S. 2. The highway also had a triple cable line barrier system down the center to prevent cross-over collisions. The Safety Coalition would like to see this system implemented here on U.S. 2 in addition to the LED lights. As of this date we have received only excuses and push back from those involved.
On January 6th we experienced the first fatality of 2014-áon U.S. 2, a cross-over head-on crash that killed 1 and injured another. The crash occurred at approximately 5:00 AM in the dark.
Today I learned via KOMO radio that W.S.D.O.T. is experimenting with the installation of solar powered LED lights on I-90, a very dark roadway. No mention of U.S.2 which is far darker, dangerous, and deadly. So far 91 people have died on this corridor since Jan. 1, 1990. THE TIME FOR LIP SERVICE IS PAST we must have action. If I-90 is so important then what about U.S. 2?
The U.S. 2 Safety Coalition asks everyone to contact their Legislator, the State House and Senate Legislative Committees, and the State Department of Transportation and-áask for funding to install the LED light system on U.S. 2 now.
Fred Walser, Chairman
U.S. 2 Safety Coalition
