The wooden ramps attached to two Gold Bar Elementary School portable units were completely destroyed in a recent act of vandalism.
A Sultan School District School Board Member noticed the damaged ramps on Monday, July 27, after Gold Dust Days. The individual reported the damage to school officials, who contacted local law enforcement officers and filed a police report. The wooden ramps facilitated regular and ADA access to four portable classrooms. With school scheduled to start in less than a month, the ramps will need to be replaced as soon as possible.
"The ramps that were destroyed provided accessibility for disabled students and require ADA approved materials for rebuilding,GÇ¥ said the Sultan School District in a statement.
While the school's insurance policy covers acts of vandalism, the school district could be faced with increased premiums in addition to the cost of the deductible.
If anyone has any information that could help identify the perpetrators of the vandalism, they are being asked to contact the Sultan School District's main office at 360-793-9800 or the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office at 360-793-1051.
