The Volunteers of America Sky Valley and its food bank in Sultan are teaming up with the Monroe Rite Aid on the corner of U.S. 2 and Kelsey Street for a toy and food drive. The event is happening on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Toys will be collected for the Dave Wood Giving Tree Program, a 15-year-long tradition that allows children in low income families to have a holiday gift.
"Last year, we were able to help 325 kids,GÇ¥ said Volunteers of America's Jennifer Reasoner. "This year, we're expecting the need to be greater and we are hoping that the kind folks in the communities will be able to help some struggling children have a great Christmas.GÇ¥
The Volunteers of America Food Bank in Sultan will also be on hand to collect food, a crucial need, particularly during the holidays. Monetary donations can also be made at the Volunteers of America website, www.voaww.org.
