Washington Democratic caucuses on Saturday

The Washington State Democratic Party is poised to select either Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton as its next presidential candidate, and Sky Valley Democrats will soon have the opportunity to weigh in.

Monroe's Democratic Party caucus takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at Monroe High School. Sky Valley Democrats who will be over the age of 18 by Nov. 8, 2016, are encouraged to participate.-รก A voter's caucus location is dependent on the voter's precinct, so voters should confirm their caucus locations by using the Washington State Democrats online caucus site locater.

Voters residing in 39th Legislative District cities, including Gold Bar, Sultan, Startup, Index, Skykomish and Monroe, will most likely caucus at Monroe High School but should verify their locations.

You must be a registered voter that identifies as a Democrat to take part in the Monroe caucus; if you are not already registered, you may register at the caucus location.

Voters can fill out the 2016 Democratic Precinct Caucus Sign-In Sheets online or at the caucus location. If filled out online, the forms must be printed and brought with them on the day of the caucus, said 2016 Monroe Democratic Caucus Chairman Jim Bloss. Having the forms pre-printed and filled out is the preferred method, Bloss said, because it helps to streamline the process.

By signing the form, the voter affirms that they identify as a Democrat and agrees that their attendance at the caucus is a matter of public record.

The caucus will start promptly at 10 a.m., Bloss said, but the doors will be open at 9 a.m., and it is suggested that voters arrive earlier to allow caucus organizers time to sign them in and get them seated. Caucus participants are invited to discuss issues and talk about their preferred candidates, after which they will select delegates to move forward in the process.

Washington Democrats will select their presidential candidate through a series of caucuses, electing delegates to represent them. A total of 118 delegates from the state of Washington will travel to the Democratic National Convention in July, where they will formally nominate their candidate.

Anyone wishing to become a delegate to following caucuses should attend the Monroe caucus.
