Winterfest was bigger than ever, and this year grew out of the high school gym and into the rest of the school, said Sultan Chamber of Commerce Director Debbie Copple.
The annual holiday season event, which took place Dec. 1, included more than 60 vendors, mostly selling handmade crafts, said Copple.
"It was awesome; the best one we have ever done," she said. "There were over 60 vendors. We took over the whole school, the commons, the stage and the gym. The place was full of vendors and craft tables."
In fact, the organizers wound up struggling to find adequate parking at points during the day, which Copple also said was "awesome."
Next year, she said, the organizers will try to arrange a hay wagon to shuttle people between the high school and other parking lots.
In addition to lots of craft sales, there was live music, snacks, games for kids and a health fair.
Local health care providers attracted a lot of interest, but unfortunately, the Lions Club health van, a large mobile station that provides a lot of screening services, got lackluster attendance, in part because the glaucoma testing device, in which most people were interested, was broken.
Much more well-attended was the Schools Foundation fundraiser Santa's Cafe, which sold homemade soups and other snacks.
"We sold out by 3," said Copple.
The big winner of the event was Tony Beedle, who won a four-day Carnival Cruise in the Sultan Winterfest drawing.
Another bit of good news for Sultan Chamber of Commerce members is that Chamber Bucks have been selling well. The Chamber Bucks gift certificates are available in any denomination and can be spent at any member store. They sold strongly at Winterfest and are still available at the Sultan Visitor Information Center.
Each certificate comes with an attached list of all the businesses at which they may be spent.
"Chamber Bucks are a thoughtful present and a promise to support our Sky Valley," Copple wrote in a news release.
So far, about $1,200 in the certificates have been sold. The chamber plans to offer them year-round.
