As of Tuesday, Jan. 7, State Route 7 north of Alder has reopened after being closed for more than two weeks after a series of rockslides caused by rainfall.
However, the speed limit in that area has changed to accommodate one-lane alternating traffic.
"The speed limit is reduced from 45 mph to 25 mph between mileposts 23.69 and 24.84, leading up to a nearly 600-foot long section that is open to one-way, alternating traffic," a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) news release states. "Both the speed limit and lane reductions will remain in place until further notice."
Geometrical engineers determined areas of the slide remained active, so crews placed roadside barriers in multiple locations.
"The barrier is intended help prevent additional debris from entering the roadway," the news release states. "WSDOT will create a plan for permanent repairs while monitoring the hillsides for additional slide activity."
