Artists can submit creations for county project

The Pierce County Arts Commission is seeking up to 15 artists to create designs that can be reproduced as a vinyl wrap and applied to traffic signal boxes throughout unincorporated Pierce County.

The selected artists will be awarded $500 per box design, which includes licensing rights that would allow the commission to reproduce the final design for use across the county. Artists may submit up to four designs (note: final artwork should be submitted, not conceptual ideas).

There is no theme, however artists should integrate the front, back, sides and top of the box in their design.

This opportunity is open to amateur and professional artists of all levels who live in Pierce County and are 18 years old or older.

The project is designed to enhance the public realm by adding works of art by local artists to utilitarian surfaces that are often targeted by vandalism. The wrapped boxes are intended to enhance neighborhood and community identity, turn ordinary spaces into community landmarks, and promote community dialogue.

Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 13. Final artwork must be submitted as a high-quality digital file. If it is not an inherently digital file, it must be submitted as a high-resolution scan or photograph, suitable for use.
